April 26: RHP Kyle Nicolas recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis
Nicolas got off to a strong start with Triple-A Indianapolis, allowing just one run with 13 strikeouts over 10 2/3 innings (0.84 ERA). He made his Major League debut last year, pitching in four games in September. The right-hander was acquired from the Marlins in November of 2021 as part of the trade package for catcher Jacob Stallings.
The Pirates optioned Ryder Ryan to Indianapolis following Thursday's game, which served as the corresponding move.
April 25: RHP Ryder Ryan optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis
Ryan recorded a 3.00 ERA over 12 innings, totaling 13 strikeouts to five walks. This is the second time he has been optioned to the Minors, the first coming on April 9.
After a bullpen game on Wednesday and needing four innings of relief on Thursday, the Pirates could use a fresh arm in the bullpen.

LHP Ryan Borucki (left triceps inflammation)

Borucki played catch back-to-back days last week in Philadelphia and reported a bit of residual soreness. The Pirates decided to give him a couple days off from throwing, and they anticipate he will resume throwing early next week. (Last updated: April 19)
LHP Marco Gonzales (left forearm strain)

Gonzales is not going to throw for a couple weeks following his placement on the injured list on April 14. He has resumed all gripping activities, which director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk referred to as "progress for him." He will continue to be monitored daily. C Jason Delay (right knee soreness)

Delay had surgery on his right knee. The procedure, performed by Dr. Keith Meister, was a meniscal cleanup/debridement, according to director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk. Delay is anticipated to return to full baseball activities in about six weeks. (Last updated: April 19)
C Yasmani Grandal (plantar fasciitis)

INF/OF Ji Hwan Bae (left hip flexor)

Bae started a rehab assignment with Low-A Bradenton on Sunday and had that rehab transferred to Triple-A Indianapolis on April 9. He is eligible to come off the injured list at any time once that rehab assignment is complete. (Last updated: April 9)

Harrington, the Pirates' No. 6 prospect, had serial imaging down in Florida, and has started to play some light catch from 75-90 feet. (Last updated: April 9)
RHP Dauri Moreta (UCL surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Moreta underwent UCL reconstruction surgery this week, confirming fears that he will not pitch in 2024. The team anticipates a full recovery in approximately 14-16 months, with the hope that it might be on the shorter side since he is a reliever. Moreta is expected to return to Florida in the coming days to start the rehab process. (Last updated: March 21)

C Endy Rodríguez (right elbow surgery)

Rodríguez had his follow up with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Opening Day and is doing well. He's projected to begin a swing progression from the left side during the week of April 15, which should like him up for a formal hitting progression in early May (the former is a dry swing program, the latter would be hitting off a tee). RHP Johan Oviedo (Tommy John surgery)

The Pirates confirmed Oviedo’s offseason right elbow injury after the right-hander experienced lingering discomfort after the season, which prompted further examination. A typical recovery timetable would rule out Oviedo until 2025. He was placed on the 60-day IL on Feb. 14. (Last updated: Feb. 14)
